GAIN Welcomes James Tait to the Board

We are delighted to welcome James Tait, as the newest member of the GAIN Board.

James is a CEO/MD, NED, and Qualified Actuary with over 20 years’ experience in insurance, reinsurance, and technology. He has built a career leading transformation, turnaround, and scale-up growth across international markets.

Most recently, James was CEO of UnderwriteMe, where he led a 150+ person organisation with full P&L responsibility, scaling revenues, transforming the business into a market-leading SaaS platform, and expanding to more than 30 clients across three continents. He also drove innovation through AI initiatives and helped secure multiple industry awards. Prior to this, James was a Non-Executive Director of UnderwriteMe from its inception, challenging strategy and performance while chairing the Risk Management Committee.

Earlier in his career, James held senior roles at Pacific Life Re, ultimately serving as Head of Protection, Europe, where he managed P&L and led a team of over 50 staff across sales, marketing, underwriting, claims, and operations. He also helped found Fortis Life (now Ageas Protect), growing its UK intermediary market share above 7%, and held business development roles at Munich Re and actuarial roles at Legal & General. Today, James also supports start-ups and scale-ups as a Business & Product Strategy Consultant and Board Adviser, helping technology businesses develop strategy, metrics, and organisational design.

Speaking about his motivation to join GAIN, James said:“My daughter, who has AuDHD, inspires me to push for more neuroinclusive workplaces. there is some understanding of neurodiversity in the education sector, support often drops away in the workplace, where neurodivergent people are too often treated as neurotypical and struggle to belong and thrive. I want to raise awareness, encourage genuine inclusion, and help organisations put the right structures in place so that neurodivergent people have more options, opportunities, and support.”

With extensive expertise in strategy, product, organisational design, and value creation, James brings unique insight from both the insurance and tech sectors. His leadership experience in start-ups, scale-ups, and large organisations will be invaluable as GAIN continues to grow its impact across the industry.

We’re thrilled to have James join us as we continue building a more inclusive industry.
