GAIN Industry Benchmark - 2024

GAIN Together

GAIN is a data-driven organisation. You’ll likely already be familiar with our approach if you’ve participated in or read the results from our annual individual membership survey or have taken part in our ongoing survey on neurodivergent career experiences.

The GAIN corporate member benchmark analyses anonymous data from employees at all levels as well as HR representatives, ERG representatives and line managers, to provide companies with a detailed analysis of their current circumstances. The questions, and our analysis of them, include review of the company culture, working environment and leadership culture, as well as the way neurodivergent individuals experience HR and recruitment practices, and the overall level of engagement employees have with neurodiversity.

Through this, we are able to provide qualifying corporate member companies a detailed report showcasing their strengths as well as the areas they need to develop further, building towards a roadmap and a unique set of recommendations for their individual

circumstances.  With the benchmark reissued annually to participating members, we’re able to show progress and celebrate success where it occurs.

Through 2023, GAIN gathered responses from 1,183 employees of our member companies, including 176 line managers, 97 HR and talent professionals and 59 ERG representatives.  Our analysis of this data – and the most common strengths and challenges noted amongst participating companies - has now been compiled into a broader industry report.  We have kept the identities of participating companies confidential, in line with the fully anonymous nature of the surveys themselves.

I am delighted to share the GAIN public benchmark report, a 17-page analysis including a set of recommendations for the industry overall.

Notable strengths included employee engagement with the topic of neurodiversity, and flexibility of the working environment, with employees as a whole reporting relatively high rates of psychological safety, and line managers generally expressing a strong desire to provide supportive and inclusive environments. Barriers to creating a neuroinclusive industry include a need to ensure line managers have access to sufficient training and support to deliver on DEI objectives, a need to align HR, ERG and line manager goals and a need to develop an ambassadorial attitude among senior leaders to ensure their commitment to neurodiversity is visible and consistent.

All future individualised benchmark reports will now include a comparison of the company’s score and needs against the broader industry overall.

The GAIN corporate benchmark is available to Foundation Plus and Industry Transformer members regardless of company size. You can learn more about the benchmark and how it works here.
