A word from our Chair...

Barbara Schonhofer MBE, Chair of GAIN shares an update as we enter an exciting year for GAIN and the continued expansion of neuroinclusion across insurance and investment.

"Towards the end of last year, we significantly strengthened our governance by welcoming four additional Board members: Troy Denham, Dr Emma Mahoney, James Tait, and Linda Whorlow, Their expertise and perspective add real momentum to our work, and I'm excited to confirm I will shortly be announcing our new CEO.

"In Q1 2026, we will be rallying our members to help maximise the support we provide, streamline our services, and further embed the sharing of good practice across the industry.

"What we have learned along the way is striking. There are far more neurodivergent individuals already working within insurance and investment than many organisations realise. Some are formally diagnosed, others self-diagnosed; some are open, others remain undeclared. Too often, the absence of recognition of difference as a business advantage has led to masking. This has a real impact – not only on individual wellbeing, but also on productivity, team dynamics, and business outcomes.

"At a time when the world is changing rapidly and risks are constantly evolving, the value of different ways of thinking has never been clearer. Neurodivergent individuals often outperform peers in specific areas when their talent is understood and appreciated. Small adjustments in how we work can remove the exhausting constraints of masking, enable greater honesty, and build stronger understanding within teams – ultimately sharpening focus on the task at hand.

"For our industry, embracing different thinking as a business imperative is essential to staying ahead. If we get this right, the message is powerful. It positions insurance and investment as sectors that attract the best talent, reflect the clients we serve, and are equipped to meet the challenges of the future.

"For all progressive businesses across insurance and investment: watch this space.

"Since 2021, GAIN’s mission has remained constant: to radically improve the employment prospects of neurodivergent individuals. As an industry hub, we are proud to see our neurodivergent community continue to grow – standing together with the courage to advocate for an industry where they can truly belong and thrive.

"Today, more than 45 companies have joined this mission. Each is committed to neuroinclusion through the sharing of good practice, collaboration on initiatives, and the co-creation of innovative ideas that benefit both people and performance.

On behalf of the Board, our volunteers, and the GAIN team, I would like to thank our corporate members, community, partners, and sponsors for your continued commitment. Together, we are making real progress and unlocking the exceptional talent found within neurodivergent individuals."
