Every year, we issue a survey diving deep into topics of workplace neuroinclusion, adjustments, psychological safety, recruitment and other topics relevant to the work we do at GAIN.
In 2025, recognising the need to expand our research beyond our own membership, we issued our largest survey yet to a wider audience, and received our largest response rate to-date for any non-benchmark survey.
230 people, some from within GAIN membership, many outside it, took the time to share their experiences and provide open, honest and vulnerable insight into what the workplace is like for our community. What we found is that a year of political upheaval, cultural volatility and “quiet” workplace DEI rollback has been far less quiet than many employers may have assumed, and has had a marked negative impact on the psychological safety, wellbeing and career success of neurodivergent people, especially those of us from marginalised backgrounds.
Workplaces cannot simply “do DEI” when it is easy and relatively fashionable, drop the concept the moment it requires hard work or actual commitment, and then expect to pick it back up when tides shift back later. Not without seeing a negative impact on how committed their top employees are to an organisation that hasn’t shown commitment to them in return.
The full survey report is out now, and runs 50 pages long due to the sheer amount of invaluable insight we received. We know a report like that is a lot to absorb, so this year we have published additional shorter reports focusing on specific issues.
These include;
In each, we include specific advice targeted at leaders, managers, HR and ERGs with real, actionable steps they can take to ensure they help create more neuroinclusive, and more broadly inclusive and accessible, workplaces for all their employees. We said at the start of this survey that every response helps us transform the industry, and we meant it. The people who took the time to share their experiences have helped us prove to businesses why they need to care about neuroinclusion and be consistent about it, not only when it’s fashionable to be inclusive, but always and especially when the rest of the world is rolling back on its commitments. We welcome anyone interested in reading either the full survey or one or more of the mini ones, and you can review them all on our Resource Hub.
Another thing we learned from the survey responses, is we need to gather more data specifically to evolve our reporting from exploring the state of the situation towards deeper good practice guidance. With that in mind, knowing how complex these topics can be, we have begun launching shorter, easier to answer mini-surveys that focus on specific topics.
These will run longer-term, but the sooner we get enough responses on them, the sooner we can use these insights to transform the industry. If you find our survey reports and good practice guidance valuable, if you’ve enjoyed participating in our surveys before, or if you want to be part of our continued drive for industry transformation, please take the time to answer any one of the below.
We’re not just gathering more data, either. At GAIN we’re continuing to explore opportunities to work with our members to make active, real changes, In addition to ongoing projects such as our Investment Industry Working Group, our developing Industry Neuroinclusion Playbook and our regular educational events, we are proud to announce the launch of an annual in-person innovation workshop. Every year, GAIN and long-standing Industry Transformer member Aviva will collaborate to deliver an innovation session designed to answer questions about specific issues in the workplace.
This year, QBE are sponsoring and hosting an innovation session focused on creating accessible, neuroinclusive physical workspaces. We’ve opened the invite to employees of GAIN corporate members, but we need neurodivergent people to bring their lived experience to the table, to ensure all our work follows the principle of Nothing About Us Without Us. If you’re available in London on Wednesday 24th June and would like to register your interest, please sign up using This Form.
Please note, as this is an in-person event, spaces are limited and as such we cannot guarantee that every registrant will receive a space. We will contact registrants soon to confirm their space.
